Encaustic Still Life
Encaustic Still Lives
Lately I am creating Still Lives with Encaustics. I start cutting out the shapes with my CRICUT. A CRICUT is a wonderful little machine that cuts curved, detailed shapes.
But before that step, I photograph my favorite cups, vases, bottles and bowls. I convert these images to black and white and upload them to the CRICUT design platform. I prepare many, many different papers to cut up. The more the better. I print copies of paintings and other digital textures. I reach into my commercial paper stash.

Then I madly cut shapes. Lots and lots of cuts. This is my favorite part of the process. I love the results of randomly cutting shapes out of different images.

I prepare the encaustic surface with layers of wax medium. Melt in a few colors. Place the cut out pieces into the wax. And then seal it up.
These images are 8"x 8". They hang on the wall with a hook. You can purchase off of my website, https://www.simplyimagesbysarah.com or the Best of the Northwest Online shop, https://www.bestofthenorthwestart.org/sarah-dalton.html.
